West Maui SWCD is working with NRCS and the Kaho‘olawe Island Reserve Commission (KIRC) to develop a conservation plan in an effort to restore two wetland habitats on Kaho‘olawe.

KIRC was establised by the State Department of Land & Natural Resources to manage the Kaho‘olawe Island Reserve while it is held in trust for a future Native Hawaiian sovereign entity. KIRC is dedicated to the restoration and protection of the island's cultural, historical, archeological and environmental resources. Though KIRC is administratively attached to DLNR, much of their work is done by a dedicated staff and enthusiastic volunteers.
